What is an Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a non-invasive technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to look into the human body. Ultrasound is a Low cost easily available, safe, painless procedure which guides the doctor on specific treatment. Ultrasound does not use any radiation so it is safely used in children and pregnant lady. We atPrime Diagnostic and Imaging have highly trained ultrasonologist / radiologist working on high end equipment and provide accurate reports.

Ultrasound is used in almost all human organ systems like abdomen, pelvis, chest, urogenital system, musculoskeletal system, breast, neck, scrotum, infant brain etc. Also ultrasound is exclusively used in diagnosis and progression of pregnancy.

According to the PCPNDT Act it is mandatory to have a valid prescription with doctor’s name and registration number and ID proof of the patient.
Prenatal sex determination (Boy or girl before birth) is punishable under PCPNDT Act. It is not done at Prime Diagnostics and Imaging.

Frequently Asked Questions
Not all ultrasounds require empty stomach. Only ultrasound whole abdomen or upper abdomen require the patient to be in empty stomach to visualize the gallbladder. It is recommended to be empty stomach for at least 2to 3 hours before ultrasound. However, in most of the patients we can evaluate the Gallbladder even after eating. In very rare cases we cannot adequately evaluate the gallbladder so we call them the next morning in empty stomach for a review. Other ultrasounds like pregnancy ultrasound, ultrasound KUB, pelvis lower abdomen, neck and children etc. do not need empty stomach.

Not all ultrasounds require full bladder. Only ultrasound KUB, lower abdomen, pelvis need full bladder. We recommend not to pass urine at least 1 to 2 hour before ultrasound.
Pregnancy ultrasound do not need full bladder or empty stomach.

Only for pregnancy ultrasound it is mandatory to have a valid prescription. As per the PCPNDT Act it is mandatory to have a valid prescription with doctor’s name and registration number and ID proof of the patient. For all other ultrasound doctor’s prescription is not essential. However,we suggest the patient to carry the doctor’s prescription and all previous medical records for better understanding of the disease and accurate reporting.

Ultrasound does not use any harmful radiations; it uses sound waves to look into the human body. Ultrasound is safe for both mother and the baby. You can do as many ultrasounds as required and advised by your doctor without any harmful effects.
Empty stomach or full bladder is not required for ultrasound in children. We recommend to feed the child as per his need but do not pass urine at least 1 hour before ultrasound. The radiologist / ultrasonologist can calm down a crying baby in most of the time.
